Allegheny Outfitters Outdoors Store
Located at mile 9 along the Allegheny River in downtown Warren, AO Store is housed in a remodeled manufacturing facility, with beautiful exposed industrial beams and large windows overlooking the river. We always say if we must be stuck inside, this is the most positive space to do it.
We offer high quality backpacking, paddling, hiking and climbing gear. (You'll find our major brands below.) We hold regular events at our shop. Winter series movie nights, geocaching gatherings, backpacking and paddling workshops, wine and art walks, among others. Our "Paddle Happy Sale + Summer Happenings" event every February brings in people from all over the region, as does our annual "End of Season Sale" every September. You'll find a complete list under our events tab. All our backpacking gear rentals are checked out from this location as well.
If you have any questions, reach out and contact us, we'd be happy to help! As always, thank you for supporting a small, local shop. It means a lot.
Our Brands
Helping folks find the right gear for their outdoor adventuring is what we're all about. We're students of the river and trails ourselves (and maybe gear junkies from time to time) and love passing that information on to our customers. We pride ourselves on having what you need to get outside, but our shop is always a work in progress. We love recommendations for new gear.
We spent the first five years at AO updating our rental fleet of canoes and kayaks with eight different brands of boats - so we not only know how they perform, but we understand the difference in quality and craftsmanship between brands, which is why we carry what we do. Whether you're planning to spend a couple days on the water each summer or you're ready to rally daily in a new fishing kayak, we'd love to help you find the right boat for your needs!
Why these brands?
Simply put, we use the gear we sell. And we love to learn more about the companies behind the brand. We've toured manufacturing floors at Old Town, Necky, Ocean, Jackson Kayak, Therm-A-Rest, MSR, Seal Line and Platypus. (You can read about our factory tour of Cascade Designs the parent company of the latter four - and their goal of becoming a zero-waste facility - here.) But this isn't to say we aren't always looking for new gear to carry. If you have a suggestion, let us know!
